Futef now with links to Google Maps - from the virtual to the physical
With Futef you have always been able find stuff and now we are helping you find out even more. On results that have associated Latitude and Longitude - we make available a link pointing off to Google Maps. Sure, you know Tokyo Tower is in Tokyo, Japan but now you can see exactly where it is or where are all the great Antoni Gaudà buildings in Barcelona or anything that is tagged with Geo Coordinates. Look for the link to [Map] and go explore.

Wikipedia API now with Lat/Long
It has been a while since we updated the blog but we have been busy adding a couple new features that we would like to share with our API users. We have extracted geo coordinate data from the Wikipedia articles that we index - for about 85k articles and made that information searchable. Using the FUTEF API you can now specify a lat/long bounding box to limit results to a geographic region. Also the articles that have suitable Lat/Long information return that info as well. So want to plot out "Antoni Gaudà buildings" or "Visitor attractions in London" now you can w/ the FUTEF API.
Check the api documentation for a complete example.
Mash it up and let us know what you make.

Wikipedia Search Improvements
We have been hard at work improving the quality of search results and while we are not even close to being done - we have made some improvements. We particularly focused on merging article titles and weighting certain fields more heavily than others. Let us know if you see a difference and
where we still need improvement.

FUTEF is now available as a Google Gadget. This means you can add it your personalized Google home page. Additionally, you can add Wikipedia search to any webpage using Google Gadgets open syndication method. On the right side of the blog you will notice an example of this. Also check out the top right section of the search results page, where you can find links to help you add Wikipedia Search to your own pages. Eventually, there will be real documentation describing a couple different ways to take full advantage on this. Please send us email or leave comments and let us know what is working and what isn't. Thanks.
